In a rematch of last year's semi-final game, the Clinton Irish Blizzard came to Randolph and defeated the Oilers in overtime 27-21...The loss was the second heart-breaking loss in a row to the Blizzard as they ended the oilers championship run last season beating Randolph 27-13.
The game started off looking like things were going to go Randolph's way all night...After the defense forced a 3 and out on Clinton's first possession, the Oiler's offense marched to about the Blizzard 40 before Dave Canavan's punt gave Clinotn horrible field position...The first quarter turned into a battle for field position and it wasn't until with about 10 mins left in the second quarter that Clinton was able to score the game's first points...Randolph responded by driving the ball flawlessly behind big runs from Charles Thomas and Calvin Bryant and capped the drive with a Ryan Myers TD pass to Brian Gallo to even the score 7-7, which is where the game stood at halftime After the oiler offense failed to score even though Will Price's kick return gave them the ball inside CLinton's 35, The Blizz were able to take a 14-7 lead early in the 3rd quarter but Randolph again responded with a great drive...Behind more good running and some good passing from Myers, Gallo caught another Myers fade pass for their second hook-up of the game, again tying the score. Clinton was driving and looking to take the lead again in the 4th quarter when Norm Burns stepped in front of a Riccio pass in the end zone and returned the pick all the way to the 11 yard line...Bryant then took a hand off, got a couple good block, made some shifty moves and scored, pputting the Oilers up 21-17...Unable to run the clock out later in the game, the Oilers gave up a late TD and a Clinton INT ended regulation tied at 21 The Oilers lost the toss and were given the ball first in OT...The EFL follows NCAA OT rules, allowing both teams a chance to score...The Oilers drive ended in a missed FG, and CLinton promptly took 4 plays to end the game...The loss was the Oiler's 3rd to Clinton over the last 2 seasons. Randolph got a solid game from the offensive and defensive lines, notably DTs Anthony Goodwyn and Karl Wells...Dan Carroll and Johnny Taylor played solid in the secondary and the special teams looked good...But none of that was enough as the Oiler's open the season with a loss...They look to rebound against Brockton on July 24 in Bridgewater
